Customer: Ansaldo STS S.p.A. an Italian joint-stock company, established in Genoa in 1995, operating with the current name and structure since 2006 and active in the sector of railway and metropolitan rail transport systems.
Opportunity: Construction of a railway line for freight transport, with its use in the future also for passenger transport, from the gas extraction site in the south of the country to the port of Ruawis.
Project: SITE S.P.A. has carried out the installations of the signalling systems for the “Shah – Habshan – Ruwais” railway line, with a length of 264 km, on a subcontract basis. The line connects the gas extraction site in the south of the country to the port of Ruawis.
SITE S.P.A. has carried out the installations of the signalling systems. The line was inaugurated in 2015.
The signalling system consists of a Level 2 ERTMS, based on an ACC multi-station system, 1 Radio Block Centre (RBS), 400 Transponders, 65 Points Machines and 150 Axle-counters.
The construction of the “Shah – Habshan – Ruwais” railway line forms part of the plan for construction of the “Union Railway” for a total length of 1,100 km in the UAE and 2,177 km in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Advantages: The advantage for the Client has been that of having SITE S.P.A. as the sole interlocutor for “on-site” management of the project, with the skills of System Integrator and therefore able to provide support in the field also for the design, testing and commissioning activities.
Future developments: The construction of the “Union Railway” line includes the involvement of SITE S.P.A. which, with the experience gained in the railway sector in Italy and Overseas, is a leader in the Telecommunication and Energy sector and in the management of integrated railway technologies.
